To reduce the wait for the next weekly post, I’ve decided to slot in a “lighter” post from time to time. Today I’d like to ask you a question: How do you balance blogging with your blog?
I’m really keen to hear your views on this. Do you have a job? Do you work long hours? Do you work from home, or in an office? If you don’t work from home, how long is your daily commute? How does your job affect the amount of time you have for your blog?
I’ll go first. I enjoy what I do for a living – web development – but it can be hard to go online after a long day at work. I leave the house at 7:30am and don’t usually get home much before 7:30pm. That’s a long day.
When I lived in Australia from 2006-2008, I worked from home, but some days were still quite draining. Not as much so, though. I’d work from 9:00am to 5:00pm with some extra time as needed, but most of the time there wasn’t a lot of extra work to do.
I take each day as it comes, but I do enjoy working on my blogs, and I usually find the time to write a few posts every week regardless of how busy I am at work.
How about you?
I have a full time job – 8hrs a day, 5 days a week. I drive to work, about 15 minutes each way (I have it pretty easy there). Obviously, when I’m at work, I have to work, but I’ll spend some time during lunch to take a quick look at comments and such, as well as take a quick look through my reader.
Once I get home, I spend the majority of my time in front of the computer. My husband is a gamer, so it’s not really any time away from him since we’re on our on computers in the same room. I spend most evenings reading blogs, surfing the internet, and when the mood hits, writing. At least with a personal blog as small as mine, there aren’t many expectations so I don’t feel too much pressure. Blogging is just something I do for the enjoyment of it all.

And I think it’s extremely important to enjoy blogging. Very much so. Why blog if you don’t enjoy it, or don’t have time? I wouldn’t see the point.
